From April 12 to May 24, a short-term educational course in Ukrainian Sign Language brought together nearly 80 participants. The initiative aimed to enhance inclusivity and improve communication with people who are deaf or hard of hearing.
The course program was developed by a specialist in inclusive education and sign language. It included foundational knowledge of Ukrainian Sign Language, an introduction to the ethics of communication within the Deaf community, and practical exercises focused on key linguistic structures. The learning process incorporated interactive methods, video materials, and live communication.
Participation in the course marked an important step toward creating a more accessible and sensitive environment for individuals with hearing impairments. Through this experience, participants acquired essential language skills that will contribute to the broader adoption of inclusive communication practices in everyday life.
We extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed to the implementation of this initiative, and especially to the Institute of Postgraduate Education of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv for providing the venue for the training sessions.
