Honoring the memory of the Heroes of Kruty

On January 29, for the 107th anniversary of the Battle of Kruty, the students, staff, cadets, Ukrainian Physics and Mathematics Lyceum students, the Student Parliament, and the Center for Social Development of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv visited the Kruty Heroes Memorial to pay tribute to the young defenders of Ukraine who gave their lives for freedom and independence.

This tragic, yet heroic page in history has become a symbol of the sacrifice and resilience of Ukrainian youth. 500 young men—students, gymnasium students, and servicemen—stood up to defend their homeland against a much larger enemy army. Not only did they stop the offensive, but also demonstrated to the world that Ukraine has brave young people ready to fight for their country.

During the commemoration, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs (Humanitarian Affairs) Taras Kompanets and Professor of the Department of Modern History of Ukraine Hryhorii Savchenko addressed the audience.

In their speeches, they emphasized the importance of the Kruty Heroes’ heroic deed, its significance for national memory and Ukraine’s current struggle for independence.

Flowers, a moment of silence, a joint prayer – all this was a tribute to those who in 1918 showed the whole world that Ukraine does not surrender. The feat of the Kruty Heroes remains a guiding light for all of us today, reminding us of the need to protect our country and its future. Eternal memory and honor to the heroes! Ukraine remembers!
