On March 14 – 15, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv hosted the «Model UN» – an intellectual and practical conference that brought together young leaders. Participants in the event took on the roles of United Nations delegates, representing the interests of different countries. This format allowed young people not only to delve into the intricacies of global politics but also to master the art of debate, learn to defend national interests with sound reasoning, and hone their public speaking skills.
A distinctive feature of this year’s conference was the parallel work of five specialized committees. Each committee focused on addressing critical global issues ranging from international security concerns to environmental and humanitarian challenges. Thanks to this structure, delegates were able to analyze highly specialized topics in depth, learn to seek compromises amid conflicting interests, and collaboratively draft resolutions that meet current international standards.
The event was organized by active students from the Faculty of Chemistry at Kyiv National University in partnership with the civic organizations «Shturval» and «Rouzhyca,» as well as the Center for Social Development (CSD). Thanks to these joint efforts, a space was created for constructive dialogue and professional growth among future diplomats and civic leaders. The event’s program was intense and focused on developing critical thinking and the ability to find real solutions to complex global problems.
The scale of the conference was impressive – over 130 people attended. The delegates included both students from our university and active high school students from Kyiv and various parts of the Kyiv region. Such a wide geographical representation and the participants’ enthusiasm demonstrate young people’s high level of interest in global processes and their desire to become part of the global diplomatic community.
